2013 PGA Championship at Oak Hill CC Betting Odds and Picks #GlorysLastShot

It’s hard to believe that next week’s calendar already brings us the PGA Championship and “Glory’s Last Shot,” the final major championship of the PGA Tour season.  But hey, that does mean one thing- only 8 more months til Augusta!  Ok, not that the PGA Championship’s Wannamaker Trophy isn’t a coveted title, but it’s no secret that it’s the bottom tier of all of the majors.  Yep, I know that’s a big ouch but seriously, we all can agree that when anyone is asked which major they want to win most, the PGA is never on the tip of their tongue.

All of that aside, the PGA Championship IS a major and has an absolutely stacked field.  This year’s PGA travels to Oak Hill CC in Rochester, NY (technically it’s in Pittsford, which is a tiny suburb of Rochester), site of Shaun Micheel’s triumph in 2003 (insert collective yawn here).  The course measures a mere 7,145 yards from the tips and is a par 70, but with deep rough, tight rolling fairways and severely undulating greens, it’s no cupcake walk.  In fact, when Micheel won back in ’03, he did so with a total score of just -4, with only two other players under par (Chad Campbell and Tim Clark).

Below are your betting odds updated through Friday, August 2nd (per Bovada).  Here are my head-straight-to-the-window value picks for this year’s tourney: #straightcashhomey

Jason Day
Jason Day 33/1
– Been seriously knocking on the door of majors now for the past three years and just itching to hoist his first major trophy.  Has the talent, the mind, the look and everything needed to win this week.  Even comes in a bit overshadowed after a poor performance at the British and struggling at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone.  33/1 is a steal.

Brandt Snedeker
Brandt Snedeker 20/1
– Odds have fallen from 33/1 all the way down to 20/1 after his rock rollin’ birdie fest on the way to victory at the RBC Canadian Open.  Not any value here, but Sneds is red freaking hot (has never played well at Firestone so don’t worry about his so-so play there this week) and will be in contention at Oak Hill.  #Sneeeeeedeker

Steve Stricker
Steve Stricker 40/1
– I’m not sure Strick will ever actually break through and win that coveted major title, but if he does, it just screams PGA Championship to me.  Strick was in contention at this year’s U.S. Open before faltering on Sunday, and was also the first round leader at the ’11 PGA before slipping up and seeing Keegan Bradley win.  Strick has the talent and if he gets hot with the putter, it’s game, set, match.  He just needs to keep those nerves steady.  40/1 is a solid bet.

Webb Simpson
Webb Simpson 50/1
– Hasn’t had the best of seasons per his standards, but the 2012 U.S. Open champion appears to have found some form at Firestone this week and will be in contention at Oak Hill.  50/1 is some solid value.

So, there you have it, a 4-pack of PGA picking awesomeness.  Stay away from Phil 10/1 (great season, but he’s done winning this year) and Westwood 22/1 (we’ve said it repeatedly- will never win a major).  If you feel like betting any of those, feel free to just throw a few extra Benjamins out the window on your way to the betting parlor and you’ll have the same odds of going home with some cash.

As always, remember that gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir…..and I never slice!
