2016 Wyndham Championship Picks, Including the Driver-Off-The-Deck BOLD Play of the Week #isitThursdayyet

Somehow it’s mid-August already and we are already into the final “regular” PGA Tour event of the season, which means one thing–it’s almost Ryder Cup time baby!  Ok, I’ll refrain further from expressing too much excitement for my soon-to-be week-long stint attending the Ryder Cup up in Chaska, MN, but seriously, there’s a lot of great golf coming up.

This week is no stinker as several big names highlight the field at the Wyndham Championship, including “Mr. 58” Jim Furyk, Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, PGA Champion Jimmy Walker and others who will be teeing it up in Greensboro, NC come Thursday.

The host course Sedgefield CC is annually a par 70 birdie-fest, in fact last year for the second year in a row it played as the easiest par 70 on Tour, averaging 68.858 for the course of the three days.  It’s a Donald Ross gem that plays just 7,127 and with little rough, it’ll be red numbers galore.

Now, let’s hop into some picks for the week:

LOCKZILLA

Russell Henley
Russell Henley
– No question about it, this is a BOLD prediction at this point, but I’m calling right now that Russell Henley makes this year’s Ryder Cup squad.  Currently at 43rd in points, he needs a huge push to climb up anywhere near the conversation, but his fist pumping fire and passion is exactly what Team USA to keep the trophy back to American soil.  Coming off of a t-22nd at the PGA Championship and t-11th at the Travelers and I’m telling you that now is the time to pounce on Russell before he makes some serious noise.

SEMI-FLIER

Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas
– JT opened 67-68-66 here last year, only to tumble down the leaderboard with a 75 on Sunday to finish t-56th.  That one bad round shouldn’t scare you off of him this week, as he possesses as much upside as anyone in the field.  Coming off of a t-3rd at the Travelers, which was capped by a sizzling 62 on Sunday and being extra motivated by trying to make a late push to make the Team USA Ryder Cup squad at Hazeltine and boom, love me some JT this week.

HOSEL-ROCKET BUST

Jimmy Walker
Jimmy Walker
– It might seem crazy to fade the PGA Champion, but I’m going to keep this short and simple and tell you to stay away this week and thank me later.

DRIVER-OFF-THE-DECK BOLD PLAY OF THE WEEK

Cameron Smith
Cameron Smith
– I pegged Cameron in this exact same BOLD spot last year at the Wyndham and he produced nicely to the tune of a t-18th finish.  He carded 4 rounds in the 60’s last week at the John Deere Classic en route to a top 25 finish and he’s in need of a big week to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs.  He possesses a lot of career upside and is flat out a great play in all formats this week.
