2017 The Memorial Tournament Picks, Including the Driver-Off-The-Deck BOLD Play of the Week #isitThursdayyet

Following Kevin Kisner’s second career victory last week at Colonial, the PGA Tour treks to The Buckeye State for one of the most coveted non-major tourneys in golf—The Memorial.

Muirfield Village, the annual host course for the event, is a gorgeous, lush 7,392 yard track in Dublin, OH, which is heavily tree-lined and has deep bunkers and water hazards galore.  The par 72 layout is annually the toughest non-major on the PGA Tour, typically playing to a stroke average of between 73-74.  It demands extreme accuracy off the tee and a high-level of precision around the blazing fast greens, which average less than 5,000 square feet in size.

My picks last week at the Dean & Deluca Invitational at Colonial were a mixed bag.  My Driver-off-the-Deck BOLD play of the week Bill Haas had a solid t-12th finish and my Hosel-Rocket BUST Jamie Sadlowski predictably missed the cut, but my Lockzilla Jason Dufner surprisingly missed the cut and Semi-Flier Chris Kirk made the cut, but struggled on the weekend.

Now, let’s hop into some picks for this week:

LOCKZILLA (Last Week: Dufner MC)

Adam Scott
Adam Scott
– Scotty plays so infrequently that when he does tee it up for the first time in a month or so, he can go overlooked when there are other names in the field (ie this week with DJ, Spieth, Day, etc…).  All he does is continue to post consistent results, including six top 15s this year, most recently a t-6th at the PLAYERS.  Finished t-13th and t-4th in his past two appearances here (’13 and ’14) and wouldn’t be surprised whatsoever to see him find the winner’s circle this week.

SEMI-FLIER (Last week: Kirk t-67th)

Steve Stricker
Steve Stricker
– A Sunday 63 last week at Colonial vaulted him up to a t-7th place finish, keeping his hopes of qualifying for the U.S. Open in his home state alive (he admitted in a post round interview on Sunday that’s his driving factor right now).  Don’t think that just because Memorial is a beefy course that you should count Stricks out, as he’s a past champ here (2011) and also added a t-6th in 2014.

HOSEL-ROCKET BUST (Last week: Sadlowski MC)

Scott Brown
Scott Brown
– A nice little run of late here from Brown, capped by a t-12th last week at Colonial.  But, consistency never has been his cup of tea, and his 2 for 4 mark here at Memorial certainly doesn’t have me hesitating to call for him as my BUST of the week.

DRIVER-OFF-THE-DECK BOLD PLAY OF THE WEEK (Last week: Haas t-12th)

Morgan Hoffmann
Morgan Hoffmann– An extra dose of BOLD here this week as Morgan is a career 0-fer here at the Memorial, but he’s also never been as consistent of a player as he is now, notching 3 top 15 finishes in his past 4 events with a t-27th at the Byron Nelson sandwiched in between. He also notched a t-2nd at the Honda Classic in late Feb and is becoming more and more comfortable inside the ropes in his fifth full season on the PGA Tour.  He will be super low owned in any format, so roster up and thank me later.
