2017 Wells Fargo Championship Picks, Including the Driver-Off-The-Deck BOLD Play of the Week #isitThursdayyet

Following some 2-man team fun at last week’s Zurich Classic, we head to the Wells Fargo Championship for some regularity…except for the fact that it’s being played on a different course this year due to the PGA Championship in August being held at the usual Quail Hollow joint.  So, the host track this week is Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, NC, a pristine 7,400 yard Fazio design.  The field took a bit of a hit of its usual star power, but Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson and other big names are still teeing it up this week.

Two weeks ago my picks at the Valero Texas Open were straight cash homey, as I nailed Brooks Koepka as my Lockzilla of the week, en route to his 2nd place finish.  My other two picks (An, Poston) also made the cut and I correctly predicted Ian Poulter to miss the cut as my BUST of the week.

Now, let’s hop into some picks for this week:

LOCKZILLA (Last week: Koepka 2nd)

Adam Scott
Adam Scott
– Was quite surprised to see Scotty in the field this week.  That being said, on a long, unfamiliar course where others won’t know the greens either, that should flatten out the advantages with the putter in theory, making me like Adam even more (because ahem, he’s not good with the flatstick).  Should be well rested coming off of his t-9th at the Masters.

SEMI-FLIER (Last week: An t-40th)

Kevin Kisner
Kevin Kisner
– Last week’s runner-up with partner Scott Brown is poised to win very soon, I just can’t decide if it’s going to be this week or next week at the PLAYERS.  Basically, just go ahead and plan to play him each of the next two weeks and thank me later.

HOSEL-ROCKET BUST (Last week: Poulter MC)

Martin Laird
Martin Laird
– I’ve followed Laird for long enough to know that his 1 missed cut in 11 events this PGA Tour season simply won’t last, as he is just not that consistent (no fewer than 7 cuts missed since 2012).  Time to sell this Scot’s stock.

DRIVER-OFF-THE-DECK BOLD PLAY OF THE WEEK (Last week: Poston t-27th)

Kevin Tway
Kevin Tway
– Normally I wouldn’t be gaga over someone so yet unproven on Tour, but by following up his t-3rd at the Valero Texas Open two weeks ago with another 3rd place finish at last week’s 2-man team event at the Zurich Classic, he’s showing that he’s in prime form and not slowing down anytime soon.  Also helps that no one else in the field has any tournament experience on this course either, so sign me up for a serious dose of this long-bomber this week.
