2018 A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Picks, Including the Driver-Off-The-Deck BOLD Play of the Week #isitThursdayyet

I’m keeping the write-up short this week and jumping right in.

My picks last week at the Quicken Loans National all made the cut, highlighted by Lockzilla Tiger Woods’s t-4th finish.

Now, let’s hop into some picks for this week:

LOCKZILLA (Last week: Tiger t-4th)

Jimmy Walker
Jimmy Walker
– Let’s see.  Hasn’t missed a cut since the Genesis Open in February, and in the past few months he was 4th at the Valero Texas Open, t-2nd at the PLAYERS Championship, t-6th at the AT&T Byron Nelson and has 3 career top 4 finishes here at the Greenbrier to go along with his t-18th last year.  Jimmy loves him some Greenbrier.  Hop aboard!

SEMI-FLIER (Last week: Woodland t-53rd)

Kevin Kisner
Kevin Kisner
– It’s been an up and down season for Kiz so far this year (mostly down), as since his WGC Match Play runner-up, he’s slowly faded into a downward spiral of 3 MCs in his past 5 events.  His Greenbrier record is also highly hit and miss, with 4 MCs along with a t-2nd in 2015.  A very risky play here, but the season is quickly winding down and don’t think for a second that Kiz isn’t priming up to play his way onto Team USA in France in late September…

HOSEL-ROCKET BUST (Last week: Cink t-23rd)

Brian Gay
Brian Gay
–  The 46-year-old short game wizard has been in some solid form of late, with top 20s in 4 of his past 5 events, including a t-8th place finish at the Quicken Loans last week.  But, for one reason or another he sports a very poor record here at Greenbrier, as in 6 career appearances his best finish is 72nd place (last year).  Yikes.  Stay away and thank me later.

DRIVER-OFF-THE-DECK BOLD PLAY OF THE WEEK (Last week: Hadwin t-48th)

Ryan Blaum
Ryan Blaum
– Suddenly playing some very consistently solid golf, the former Duke grad makes for a great play here this week.  4 top 25s in his past 5 events, including a t-6th at the AT&T Byron Nelson and a t-23rd last week at the Quicken Loans.  Oh yeah, and he finished t-7th here last year in his second Greenbrier appearance, closing with a 64 on Sunday.  Sign me up!
