2018 The Northern Trust Picks + Predictions, Plus the Driver-Off-The-Deck BOLD Play of the Week #IsitThursdayyet

Happy FedEx Cup Playoffs, folks!  Jumping right into the picks this week:

LOCKZILLA

Jordan Spieth
Jordan Spieth
– I cannot imagine Jordan not being at Kapalua in January.  That’s literally a thought that I had dance through my head the other day.  No question that being win-less all year (since last year’s British Open, actually) is eating at him.  It was quite evident that he was pressing too hard and was getting too easily aggravated at times this season, which has led to substandard results.  After a long break between the British and the PGA, he finally looked close at Bellerive.  Put him on some legit greens this week and I think he seriously contends.  In fact heck, I’ll call for Jordan to start the playoffs with a BANG and take home the trophy.

SEMI-FLIER

Tony Finau
Tony Finau
– Finau had his share of highlights at the PGA Championship two weeks ago (see 10 birdies in round 2!), but overall his t-42nd place finish was a definite disappointment.  He was an extremely popular pick that week and having burned many rosters that week, he’ll likely fly a little under the radar this week.  He’s still in fine form and is vying for a Ryder Cup Captain’s pick.  Roster up this week on Tony and thank me later.

HOSEL-ROCKET BUST

Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka
– With his 2nd major of the season in the bag and his Ryder Cup spot locked up, it’s hard to imagine Brooks is overly motivated to tee it up this week.  That can be a good thing in terms of no pressure, but is more likely a bad thing in the case of Brooks as just because he won 2 majors this year I don’t suddenly expect for him to be a week-in/week-out steady, consistent player.  Not saying he won’t make the weekend, but also don’t see him contending this week.

DRIVER-OFF-THE-DECK BOLD PLAY OF THE WEEK

Kevin Streelman
Kevin Streelman
– Loves him some Ridgewood CC (has family ties to the area).  Streels has finished t-4th, t-3rd and t-46th here in three Ridgewood showings.  Always pretty hit and miss in terms of consistency, coming in on the heels of two MCs, which followed a t-7th at the John Deere Classic.  Some risk here, but some high upside as well.  Kevin Streelman is your Driver-off-the-Deck BOLD play of the week!
