2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational Picks, Including the Driver-Off-The-Deck BOLD Play of the Week #isitThursdayyet

Following Keith Mitchell’s breakthrough win last week at the Honda Classic, the PGA Tour stays within The Sunshine State and heads to the Orlando area for the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.

The Bay Hill course is a juicy 7,400+ yard par 72 track, with water hazards and deep bunkering galore.  The bombers definitely have an advantage this week, but with several of the par 4s require laying well back off the tee (similar to the Valspar last week), it does take drivers out of the hands for several holes of the bomb and gouge crew.  Oh yeah, and the 12.5-ish stimped greens are no cake walk either.

My picks last week at the Honda Classic remained red hot, as Lockzilla Brooks Koepka nearly took home the trophy, settling for a t-2nd after Keith Mitchell’s birdie-birdie finish. My last 5 weeks of Lockzilla picks have gone like this: WINNER, WINNER, t-9th, 9th, t-2nd. Yep, 5 in a row inside the top 10. Oh yeah, and I also spot on nailed flavor-of-the week Luke List to miss the cut, which he did (by 4 shots).

Now, let’s hop into some picks for this week:

LOCKZILLA (Last week: Koepka t-2nd)

Bryson in the post round interview late on Sunday talking about how much winning “Mr Palmer’s” event means to him, “especially after last year” (close call- he finished runner-up to Rory). Don’t think that just because he finished way down the board in Mexico a couple weeks ago he’s suddenly slumping, now is simply the time to pounce on one of the hottest players on the planet (5 wins in last 9 months, including no worse than t-15th in his prior 7 events before Mexico). Roster up on Bryson this week and thank me later.

SEMI-FLIER (Last week: Henley t-20th)

Luke List

Luke List- Yep, that’s right. I faded the 34-year-old last week at the Honda and spot on nailed his missed cut by 4 shots. This week? Yep, doing a 180 on the streaky long-hitter and hopping aboard. His past track record here comprises of a t-7th last year and a t-17th the year prior. Oh yeah, and it’s not like he’s too far removed from good form, as just before the Honda he was t-15th at Riviera. Expect a top 25 finish, with top 10 upside.

HOSEL-ROCKET BUST (Last week: List MC)

Ian Poulter– Nope, not this week. Simple as that. #BUST

Matthew Fitzpatrick– I was admittedly a bit surprised to see that this is already the 24-year-old’s 5th start at Bay Hill (MC, t-27th, t-13th, MC), so the familiarity is certainly there. Seemed to be piecing things together well in Mexico two weeks ago. Not sure that he’s ready to seriously contend yet on this side of the pond, but I could see a sneaky top 10 from him this week.
