Birdies were aplenty during day 1 of the Presidents Cup, the International Team stormed back and the lead story was a squirrel…seriously #WouldntSeeThatAtTheRyderCup

Birdies were aplenty during day 1 of the Presidents Cup, as both sides (other than Mr yipstick Ernie Els) lit up Muirfield Village with some scintillating play.  For a time it seemed as if the Americans could potentially complete a clean sweep to be up 6-0 going into Friday, but the Internationals stormed back to only be down 3 1/2 – 2 1/2 at day’s end.  So, the top story surely was this full day birdie plethora, right?  Or, the fact the International team’s massive comeback?  Or, Tiger and Matt Kuchar’s crazy handshake?  How about D, none of the above.

Day 1 will oddly enough be best remembered for a squirrel.  Yep, that’s right, a little rodent that former Ryder Cup captain and this year’s Team USA Presidents Cup assistant captain Davis Love III was seen playing with in his cart.  Go ahead and insert your punchline here.  It essentially became the Team USA mascot, and made its rounds from team member to team member, with even Lindsey Vonn using the squirrel to pull a prank on camera with her boy Tiger (and Tiger wasn’t too thrilled with it- see video below).  #WouldntSeeThatAtTheRyderCup

Well, I do suppose it’s fitting that Team USA’s pet was a squirrel, as they certainly did a great job of squirreling away a big lead by day’s end….badaboom.
