Jordan Spieth Should Be A Presidents Cup Captain’s Pick, Period. #TalentRich

So Jordan Spieth may not have won the Wyndham Championship yesterday and he also didn’t become the youngest player to reach two wins on the PGA Tour, but in my humble opinion he did officially lock up something of highly valued importance- a Presidents Cup captain’s pick.

We all know the story by now- the then 19-year-old started the year with no status on any tour then secured his 2013-14 card with back to back top-10 finishes at the Puerto Rico Open and the Tampa Bay Championship, then boom, he won the John Deere Classic and a FedEx Cup Playoff berth was his.  Oh but he didn’t stop there, following his playoff loss at the Wyndham Championship, Spieth finished the “regular season” an eye-opening eighth in the FedEx Cup Standings and has all but assured himself a spot in the Tour Championship.

If I’m Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples, my job just got a lot easier- Jordan Spieth is one of my captain’s picks.  Not only is Spieth red hot and playing some of the best golf in the world at the moment, but his fire, tenacity and non-stop adrenaline-rushing game are what make Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup heroes.  Guys with electricity-laced veins like Keegan Bradley and Spieth were just born to play in these pressure-packed represent-your-country tourneys as they can elevate their games to another level at seemingly any time.

As far as whom Freddy all has to choose from, as of right now in addition to Spieth it’s: Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, Billy Horschel and others.  Frankly, Stricker is too part-timey, Dustin is too Paulina-y, Furyk is too choke-y, Bubba is way too fidgety and Horschel, well he might just be my other captain’s pick as of now (love his inner fire and self-confidence as well).

This year’s Presidents Cup matches are October 3rd-6th at Jack’s course- Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio where the top 12 Americans will take on the top 12 rest-of-the-world non-Europeans.  The top ten players based on points for this year’s squads will be solidified after the completion of the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday, September 2nd.  The two Team USA Captain’s picks will be made on Wednesday, September 4th.  Hands down, Jordan Spieth belongs in that group.

Agree or disagree?
