Nike Golf Attempts to Recreate the Tiger Woods Ball-Bouncing Tricks Commercial With A New Cast of Characters- And Fails

We all remember the classic Nike Golf ad where Tiger Woods shows off his slick skills as he bounces the ball on his wedge repeatedly, while going between his legs, behind his back, in circles and then up into the air as he smashes it full swing style out into the range.

Those tricks have surely been tried by millions of golfers since, and I know that I can personally attest that during my downtime while working in the back room at the White Bear Yacht Club that I spent hours on end perfecting my moves (and hey, actually got quite good at those tricks myself).

The original commercial was extra catchy because it was so simple, as basically it was just Tiger Woods on camera doing tricks with no video edits or extra work needed.  Just a few tricks, the skinny (pre-HGH Tiger) with extra long shirt sleeves, some 80’s Caribbean style music and that’s it- Boom, the commercial was a ginormous viral sensation.

Now, Nike has brought in members of its new lineup- Rory McIlroy, Nick Watney, Paul Casey, Kyle Stanley and Suzann Pettersen- to recreate the ball-bouncing ad.  The lacking thing with the new ad is, well, everything.  Other than having the same music, it’s not really the same at all.  Each player is bouncing and passing the ball to one another, but with the black and white background it’s hard to see who’s who, the tricks are limited and not that impressive and there’s clearly a bunch of video editing involved.  See for yourself below.

So, let’s hear it.  Which one do you like better- new or old?

  1. The old one is definitely better!

I think this review generating ONE comment in over a month says it all.
