USGA Receives Nearly 10,000 Entries For 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club, An All-Time Record

The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced today that it received nearly 10,000 entries for this year’s U.S. Open (9,860 total to be exact), an all-time record.  This year’s tourney will be held June 13-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, PA.  The previous all-time record for entries was 9,086 (a dyslexic 9,860) for the ’09 Open at Bethpage Black.

It’s definitely a good omen for the game to see interest in competing in our nation’s championship at an all-time high, especially when each non-exempt player has to shell out a hefty $150 just to attempt one local qualifying round.  Each successful player that moves past local qualifying will advance to Sectional Qualifying on “Golf’s Longest Day” on Monday, June 3rd at one of several sites around the country.

At sub-7,000 yards, Merion Golf Club will be a real treat for this year’s tourney, click here for the betting odds on our nation’s championship.
